Seek First
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. (Matthew 6:33)
In the early days of commercial airlines, the wealthy were the only people who could afford to fly. But then Herb Kelleher came along. He founded Southwest Airlines in 1967 and he knew that he could figure out a way to provide low-cost airfare to the masses, without lowering quality or standards.
Herb’s decision to make Southwest the low-cost leader drove all future investments in his time, energy, and money. Every time an important decision had to be made, he asked the simple questions: Will it help us keep our cost down? Will it cause us to sacrifice service to our customers? He decided to ignore his competitors and think outside the box.
People told Herb he was crazy. All of the other airlines are providing meals on planes. All of the other airlines are assigning specific seats to passengers. He didn’t care. He believed in the vision and it empowered him and guided him in all future decisions.
Herb made the one decision that drove all future decisions.
If you have made the decision to follow Jesus, then you have also made the one decision that will drive all future decisions. People will tell you that you are crazy. “How can there really only be one God,” they will say. “Why do you love people who do not love you back?” “Why would you tithe instead of taking a nice vacation?”
Everything belongs to Jesus. Now that you’ve made the decision to follow Him, pray and ask the Holy Spirit to help you with all of your decisions - the big ones and the small ones. By deciding to put Him first, you are acknowledging that you are weak and He is strong. Let Him fulfill his mission for you.
Now it is time to go and do the work that He has called you to do.
You have made the one decision that will drive all future investments of time, energy, and money. Seek first the kingdom, and all of these things will be given to you.
Father, You chose me and I have accepted this great gift of grace and love. Help me seek You first and make all from a place of love and gratitude.
