We are for a Purpose

Suppose the foot says, “I am not a hand. So I don’t belong to the body.” By saying this, it cannot stop being part of the body. And suppose the ear says, “I am not an eye. So I don’t belong to the body.” By saying this, it cannot stop being part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, how could it hear? If the whole body were an ear, how could it smell? God has placed each part in the body just as he wanted it to be. If all the parts were the same, how could there be a body? As it is, there are many parts. But there is only one body. (1 Corinthians: 15-20)

Do you know that you are part of God’s well-diversified portfolio? You have unique gifts - but have you defined them?

Maybe you consider yourself more like a growth stock. You tell people about the grace of Jesus wherever you go. You are naturally extroverted and are so excited about the love of Jesus that you want to tell everyone you meet.

Or you might see yourself as someone who provides stability to others. You are more like a bond fund. You get your energy by serving others and caring for those most in need. You provide comfort and support to others when life gets hard.

Maybe you are a prayer warrior. In good times and in bad, you are available. I see prayer warriors as the “cash” in a well-diversified portfolio. Cash positions allow us to jump on opportunities and provide sustenance when times are most desperate.

Our Creator gives each of us unique gifts, so what are yours? You have talents and gifts that are special and valuable. Do you understand your gifts? Could you describe them if I asked you?

It’s ok if you don’t know. Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal it to you. Take an assessment and pray over the results. Many tools are also out there that can help you understand your gifts.

Jesus has given you so many wonderful talents. You are unique. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. We are blessed so that we can bless others. Take the time to learn of your gifts and use them!

When you understand your natural gifts, using them to serve Jesus can seem effortless.

Lord Jesus, give me the understanding and wisdom to know how to best love You and to serve others. Help me get excited about sharing my talents. Work through me to expand your kingdom.
